Qatar Foundation leads Qatar’s drive to become a knowledge-based society by educating its rising generation to the highest standards and building its capacity for science, research and technology development.The Research Division of Qatar Foundation contributes to this mission by developing institutes, partnerships and scientists that will position Qatar as an international leader in targeted fields of research, while supporting and coordinating research activities of the foundation’s member organisations.

QF Research Division Newsletter Issue # 1 Fall 2009
Our role is to plan, coordinate and monitor research at Qatar Foundation.
Broadly this encompasses three realms: One, we coordinate and monitor the research programs within Education City. Two, we are establishing QF’s own research centres, the Qatar Research Institutes, that will be staffed by scientists employed by QF and focus on delivering our targeted research strategy.

Qatar Foundation has called for university students about to graduate with science degrees to join its Qatar Science Leadership Program, as it seeks to nurture young Qatari scientists to lead its new research centres.

Qatar Foundation researchers sequence date palm genome

Following a long research process, scientists at Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar managed to sequence the genome of date palm, revealing its genetic secrets.

Joel Malek, director of the Genomics Laboratory at WCMC-Q commented: “We have generated a draft DNA sequence and initial assembly of the date palm using the most advanced technology.” This breakthrough will have a significant impact on the industry because it gives valuable clues to researchers working to improve fruit yield and quality More..
